This Gazetteer includes Pirana sect amongst Muslims and mentions that Imam Shah converted many Hindus of Kanbi caste showing miraculous powers. સરકારનું ભારતીય ગેઝેટીઅર જે ગુજરાત રાજ્ય માટે છે, તે વર્ષ ૧૯૮૯માં પ્રકાશિત કરવામાં આવ્યું છે. આ ગેઝેટીઅરમાં પીરાણા પંથને મુસ્લીમોમાં જોડેલ છે અને એમ જણાવેલ છે કે ઈમામ શાહે ઘણા બધા હિંદુઓને, ખાસ કરીને કણબીઓને, ચમત્કારિક શક્તિ બતાવીને વટલાવ્યા હતા. The gazetteer clearly mentions that Pirana Sect is part of Shia branch of Islam. Many Hindus of Kanbi caste were converted Imam Shah, a Shia Ismaili Saiyyed. Saiyyed Imam Shah has his origin from Nizari Pirs and entered Gujarat as Ismaili missionary.
